Our mission is to collect, maintain, and display a diverse palate of native and introduced woody plants for the purpose of educating the public, private, and educational sectors on their benefits, proper identification, planting and potential use in the landscape.
What’s In Bloom Today
Davidia involucrata, Dove Tree is now blooming, the size of the upper and lower bracts, these blooms can be seven inches long and four inches wide. This native of China poses one of the most interesting flower configurations of any tree in the Arboretum which blooms late in the season compared to most plants. Dove tree is marginally hardy in our area, an extreme cold winter will kill this tree, enjoy the blooms while you can. Expect a landscape footprint of thirty feet high and wide, supplemental watering is required during periods of drought, this tree will not tolerate dried out soil situations.
