Annual Arboretum Easter Egg Hunt

Please join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt!

Our resident Easter Bunny has been very busy. He’s looking for the perfect hiding places for his collection of Easter Eggs. Will they be under a woody shrub, a dwarf conifer or maybe, right behind you, nestled in a cluster of pine cones? You just never know where an egg will appear (it could even be the elusive Golden Egg) and that’s the delight of it! So, time to test your skills. Bring your own basket and a sunny smile for the Arboretum’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. A great way to welcome spring and it’s fun for the whole family.

This is an outdoor event, so dress for the weather. Rain or shine, of course!

Hunt begins at 3:00 PM

Admission is free.

Annual Arboretum Open House and Tour

Please join us for our annual Arboretum Open House and Tour.

This is a great event to learn more about the story of Draves Arboretum and tour the species collection with Tom Draves, founder, president and curator of Draves Arboretum, ISA Certified Arborist and tree enthusiast.

The tour starts with a brief classroom discussion of the definition of an arboretum, a history of the transition of the property from rural farmland to the current status as an Arbnet Level III Arboretum and the demanding fieldwork involved in establishing and maintaining the collection over the course of 30 years.

In the field, guests will learn which trees and woody shrubs are the most successful for WNY backyards, learn tips to identifying various tree species, explore must-see plants and discuss the history of many of the trees, their accession dates, regional growth habits and more. Tom will also provide a glimpse on how new cultivars are discovered, documented, and introduced for horticultural use around the world including the Street Keeper® Honeylocust, introduced by Draves Arboretum and patented in United States, Canada and Europe.

The tour requires walking on grounds that are elevated, uneven or may have irregular surfaces. Paved paths for visitors are located near the Richards Complex but guided tours may include slopes, stairs or rough lawn. The arboretum is a rugged, outdoor space, so dress accordingly. Shoes that provide adequate support are a must. Avoid shoes with heels or sandals as these may not provide the necessary support or protection for rough or uneven surfaces.

The tour begins at 1:30 PM and is approximately two hours long. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time.

Admission $12
