The Darien Bandstand Built in 1909
Draves Arboretum is the home to the Darien Bandstand, built in 1909, originally located at the intersection of route 20 and 77, was a social gathering place at the time. Moved to its present location in the Arboretum around 1932-1933. The Bandstand was utilized as an aircraft lookout station during World War II. Members of the airplane lookout team were issued a card stating, Aircraft Warning Service-U.S. Army and observer identification.
Sharick Grist Mill 1830’s
Only the stone foundation remains from the Sharick Mill, along with the remanence of the quarter mile of mill race and the drained outline of the mill pond located in the Magnolia section of the Arboretum. This was quite an endeavor to construct the labyrinth of waterways and the damming of Murder Creek a quarter mile away to make the water powered mill functional.
